Connect Twilio to Inflowave

Send SMS, place calls, drop voicemails — all from inside the CRM.

What this integration does

Twilio is the underlying carrier for SMS, voice calls, voicemail drops, and IVR menus inside Inflowave. You can either use our managed Twilio (everything pre-configured, billed inside Inflowave) or BYO Twilio account (your numbers, your billing, but everything still routes through the Inflowave CRM). Once connected, you get: outbound SMS from any contact record (with templates and variables), inbound SMS routed to the same shared inbox as IG/FB DMs, browser-based voice calls via WebRTC (no desk phone), call recording + transcription with searchable history, AMD (answering machine detection) for voicemail drops, IVR trees for inbound routing, and full RBAC on who can call/SMS. Per-Instagram-account phone-number mapping means agencies can give each client a dedicated number that lives alongside their IG inbox.

How to connect — 6 steps

  1. 1

Open Inflowave → Settings → Connected Accounts → Add Twilio

  2. 2

Choose: Managed Twilio (we provision numbers) or BYO (you paste Account SID + Auth Token)

  3. 3

Buy or port phone numbers (Inflowave can buy from Twilio in 60 seconds)

  4. 4

Map each number to an Instagram account or sub-account

  5. 5

Configure IVR tree (optional) for inbound routing

  6. 6

Train AI voicemail templates — drops play in your cloned voice

Use cases

Voicemail drops at scale

Drop pre-recorded (or AI-cloned) voicemails to a list of leads. AMD ensures only voicemail boxes get the drop — live answers route to a real call.

IG-to-SMS handoff

When a DM thread gets serious, send an SMS asking for phone-call permission. Convert hot DMs to a 5-minute booked call same day.

Per-client dedicated numbers

Agencies give each client a unique business phone number; calls + texts auto-route to the right team member via RBAC.

Browser-based call queue

Reps make outbound calls from the browser via WebRTC — call recording, transcription, and CRM logging happen automatically.

Why agencies choose Inflowave + Twilio

  • WebRTC browser calling — no desk phone needed
  • Voicemail drops with AMD
  • AI-cloned voice voicemails (via ElevenLabs integration)
  • SMS templates with CRM variable interpolation
  • IVR trees with menu routing
  • Per-account number mapping for agencies
  • Full call recording + transcription history

Frequently asked questions

Should I use Managed Twilio or BYO?

BYO if you already have a Twilio account or want full control over billing and numbers. Managed if you want zero setup — Inflowave handles provisioning, billing, and toll-free verification.

Are voicemail drops legal?

In the US they are legal under the FCC ringless voicemail framework, with caveats — the lead must have explicit opt-in consent. Inflowave tracks consent on every contact and blocks drops where consent is missing.

Can the AI agent answer inbound calls?

Yes. With ElevenLabs voice cloning + the Inflowave AI agent, inbound calls can be answered by a voice agent that books meetings, qualifies leads, or routes to a human.

Do calls and SMS share the same number as Instagram?

No — Instagram and SMS/voice are separate. But Inflowave maps Twilio numbers to Instagram accounts so a contact who DMs you on IG and texts you on the mapped number ends up in the same CRM record.

Which Twilio products does Inflowave use?

Twilio Programmable Voice (calls, voicemail drops, IVR, recording, transcription), Twilio Programmable Messaging (SMS, MMS, country-specific routing), Twilio Verify (2FA / OTP), Twilio TaskRouter (call queue routing for agency teams), and Twilio Voice Insights (call quality metrics).

Does Inflowave support Twilio Toll-Free verification (2024+ requirement)?

Yes. Toll-Free verification is mandatory for US SMS as of 2024. Inflowave handles the verification submission inside the dashboard — typical approval time 5-10 business days.

Does Inflowave support Twilio 10DLC A2P registration?

Yes — 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code Application-to-Person) registration is mandatory for US SMS via long codes. Inflowave guides you through Brand Registration + Campaign Registration. Approval typically 24-72 hours.

How does Inflowave handle Twilio AMD (Answering Machine Detection)?

Voicemail drop campaigns enable Twilio AMD with the "DetectMessageEnd" mode for highest accuracy. Detection latency ~3 seconds; live answers route to a human or hang up gracefully (configurable).

Can Inflowave use Twilio Voice for browser-based WebRTC calls?

Yes — Twilio Voice JavaScript SDK + Inflowave's in-browser dialer. Reps make outbound + accept inbound calls from any browser; recording + transcription happen automatically.

Does Inflowave support Twilio Lookup (phone number validation)?

Yes. Twilio Lookup runs on every contact import to validate format, detect carrier, identify line type (mobile / landline / VoIP), and check country. Bulk validation respects Twilio's rate limits.

How does Inflowave handle Twilio Sub-Accounts (Twilio Connect)?

Yes — agencies can use Twilio Sub-Accounts to give each client their own Twilio account under one master billing relationship. Inflowave maps Twilio sub-accounts to Inflowave sub-accounts for clean per-client billing.

Does Inflowave support Twilio Call Recording with PCI compliance?

Yes. Twilio supports PCI-compliant call recording with auto-pause during card-data capture. Inflowave can be configured to PCI standards for clients in payment-sensitive verticals (healthcare, financial services).

Can the AI agent answer inbound voice calls via Twilio?

Yes — Twilio Programmable Voice + ElevenLabs voice + Anthropic Claude. The AI agent picks up inbound calls, holds a real conversation, books meetings, qualifies leads, and gracefully hands off to a human when needed.

Does Inflowave support Twilio Studio for visual call flow design?

Twilio Studio is supported for IVR design but Inflowave's native IVR builder is recommended — same expressiveness, fewer round-trips between tools. Studio flows work if you have existing investment.

How Twilio works with Inflowave in practice

The Twilio integration plugs into the same Inflowave workflow engine that handles DM automation, lead pipelines, and unified inbox. Connect your Twilio account to Inflowave for native SMS, voice calls, voicemail drops, and IVR — all inside the same CRM where your DMs and pipeline live. Once connected, every event Twilio fires can trigger an Inflowave automation — and every Inflowave action can write data back into Twilio — so the two tools stay in sync without manual exports or copy-paste.

Most teams using Inflowave alongside Twilio land on a similar setup pattern: connect the account on the integrations page, pick the events you want to react to, and route the data into the Inflowave entity it should live on (lead, contact, conversation, or pipeline stage). Setup takes about 12 minutes for a fresh workspace and is reversible — disconnecting cleanly removes the webhook and stops the data sync.

Inflowave's role is to be the operating layer for Instagram-driven business — which means the Twilio integration's value lands hardest when there's a real conversation flow to attach data to. Agencies running multiple client Instagram accounts use Twilio per-client; solo creators tend to wire one Twilio account to all their connected Instagram profiles. Both shapes are supported by the same integration code path.

If Twilio isn't the right fit, Inflowave ships native equivalents for many common workflows (built-in scheduling, built-in CRM, built-in unified inbox), so the integration is meant for teams that already standardized on Twilio and want to keep using it — not as a gating dependency. The integration is included in every paid Inflowave plan with no per-event surcharge.
