How to Connect Your Own Domain to Inflowave: Websites, Email and Booking Pages

To connect your own domain to Inflowave, add the domain inside Inflowave, copy the exact DNS records it shows you, paste them into the DNS settings at your registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare or Squarespace, which now runs the old Google Domains), and press Verify. Websites use one set of records, email uses a different set, and each one is set up on its own screen.

Connecting a domain sounds technical, but it is really three small jobs: tell Inflowave which domain you own, tell your registrar where that domain should point, then wait a few minutes while the internet catches up. This guide walks through all three for a website, for email, and for booking pages, and shows the exact places to click at four of the most common registrars.

One rule before we start. Never type DNS values from memory or from a blog post, including this one. Inflowave shows you the exact records for your domain on screen, with a copy button beside each one. Always copy from there. This guide explains what each field means and where it goes, so the values you copy land in the right place.

The short answer

Question Answer
Where do I add a website domain? Open the client, go to the Website Domain tab, and click Add domain.
What do I put at my registrar for a website? The A records Inflowave shows you. For a root domain that is two on the root and two on www.
Is there a separate ownership check? On the Custom Domains settings page, yes: a TXT record named _inflowave-verify followed by your domain.
Does a website domain change my email? No. Email is set up separately on the Email tab, with its own records.
How long does it take? Usually minutes. Plan for up to 30 minutes, and allow a few hours (up to 48) in slow cases.
Can I use a subdomain like go.mybusiness.com? Yes. Subdomains are fully supported and are a good way to keep funnels apart from your main site.

Rule of thumb: Inflowave tells you what to enter, your registrar tells you where to enter it. If the two ever disagree about a value, trust Inflowave. If they disagree about a button name, trust your registrar.

How a domain connection works

A domain name is just a label. DNS is the phone book that says where that label should send visitors and email. When you connect a domain to Inflowave, you are editing a few lines in that phone book, and the lines live at whoever runs your domain's DNS. That is usually your registrar, but it can be Cloudflare or another service if you moved your nameservers there.

Three step flow: add the domain in Inflowave, add the records at your registrar, then press Verify
Three step flow: add the domain in Inflowave, add the records at your registrar, then press Verify

Before you start

  1. Know where your DNS lives. Log in where you bought the domain. If the nameservers there point to Cloudflare, make the changes in Cloudflare instead. Records added at a registrar that is not running your DNS are ignored. Squarespace says the same about its own dashboard: records only apply if the domain uses its nameservers.
  2. Decide root or subdomain. A root domain looks like mybusiness.com. A subdomain looks like go.mybusiness.com or mail.mybusiness.com. Both work.
  3. Find your existing records. If the domain already shows a site somewhere else, the old A records for the same name need to be removed or replaced. Registrars often refuse two conflicting records on the same name.
  4. Check your permissions. Adding and removing domains in Inflowave needs the domains permission on your team role. If the buttons are missing, ask your account owner.
  5. Do not rush the cutover. If a live website is running on the domain today, build and review the new site first, then switch the records.

How to read a DNS record

Every record has the same few boxes. Registrars name them slightly differently, so the table below translates the common names.

Diagram of a DNS record showing four boxes: type, name or host, value or data, and TTL
Diagram of a DNS record showing four boxes: type, name or host, value or data, and TTL

Box What it means Other names you may see
Type The kind of record, such as A or TXT. Record type
Name Which address the record is for. @ means the root domain. www means the www version. Host, Hostname, Prefix
Value What the record points to or says. Data, Points to, Text, Content
TTL How long other computers remember the record. Leave the default. Time to live

The most common mistake is typing the full domain into the Name box. Most registrars add your domain to the end automatically, so entering _inflowave-verify.mybusiness.com can produce _inflowave-verify.mybusiness.com.mybusiness.com. Enter only the part before your domain unless the registrar tells you otherwise.

Part 1: Connect a domain to your website

Website domains are added per client, on the client's profile, so each client's sites sit on the client's own address. Once a domain is verified, you can pick it when you publish any of that client's websites. If you build with the Inflowave website builder, this is the step that gives the site its real address.

Step 1: Add the domain in Inflowave

  1. Open the client and select the Website Domain tab. Save the client first if it is brand new, because the tab asks for that.
  2. Click Add domain. A window titled Connect a domain opens.
  3. Type the domain in Domain to connect, for example mybusiness.com or go.mybusiness.com. Use the bare address with no https:// and no slashes. Inflowave will reject anything else.
  4. If you typed a root domain, you may see a tick box offering to also add a go. subdomain for funnels and landing pages. It keeps funnels apart from the main site. Tick it only if you want that.
  5. Click Add domain to confirm.

The domain now appears in the list with a Pending DNS badge, and its row shows the records to create. The three badges mean:

Badge Meaning What to do
Pending DNS Added, but the records are not pointing at Inflowave yet. Create the records, then press Verify.
Verified DNS points at your site. The domain can be picked when publishing. Nothing. Click the connected site link to open it.
Disconnected It was verified once, but the records were later changed or removed. Re-add the records shown, then verify again.

Step 2: Read the records Inflowave shows

Open the domain's row. For a website, Inflowave lists A records. An A record points a name at a server address. Here is what to expect:

  • Root domain (mybusiness.com): A records with the name @, plus matching A records with the name www so the site also answers when people type www.
  • Subdomain (go.mybusiness.com): A records with the name go only. There is no www line.
  • Where two A records are listed for the same name, add both. The screen says so beside them.

Use the copy button next to each value. The page also has a Send to developer option that packages the records into a message for whoever manages your DNS, which is handy when the registrar login belongs to someone else.

Why A records and not a CNAME: A records work for both a root domain and a subdomain, and they do not depend on a site having been published yet. That is why Inflowave shows them. If a blog or tutorial tells you to create a CNAME to some hostname, ignore it and use the records on your screen.

Step 3: Create the records at your registrar

Jump to your registrar in the next section, create every record from Inflowave, and save. Then return here.

Step 4: Press Verify

Back on the Website Domain tab, press the Verify button on the domain's row. Inflowave checks DNS and either flips the badge to Verified or tells you what it found. The screen says it can take up to 30 minutes after you add the records, and if Verify still fails after that, to check that the records match exactly. Some providers take a few hours.

The ownership check on the Custom Domains settings page

There is also a Custom Domains page in settings, used to add and verify domains for generated websites. It works with a different proof: a TXT record that shows you control the domain. After you add a domain there, open the row to see:

  • Record type: TXT
  • Name or Host: _inflowave-verify. followed by your domain
  • Value: a unique code Inflowave generates for you

Create that record, then press Verify on the row. The page notes that DNS changes can take up to 48 hours but usually finish within 5 to 15 minutes. You can also choose a linked account for each domain from the dropdown on its row, or leave it Unassigned. Remember that at most registrars you enter only _inflowave-verify in the Name box, because the registrar adds your domain for you.

Comparison of what each Inflowave screen asks you to create: website domain uses A records, the settings page uses a TXT ownership record, and email uses the records on the Email tab

Part 2: Connect a domain for email

Email is deliberately separate from the website. The Website Domain screen says it plainly: those records do not change where your email goes. To send email from your domain, use the client's Email tab and its Email domains section. This is what you want for outreach and campaigns through Inflowave email.

Option A: connect a mailbox you already have

If the client already has a mailbox at Gmail, Outlook, Zoho or similar, connect it with its outgoing mail settings:

  1. Open the client, choose the Email tab, then Email domains.
  2. Start adding a mailbox. Enter the Domain your emails will be sent from, the part after the @ sign. Inflowave advises a dedicated subdomain such as mail.mybusiness.com, so that any deliverability problem does not damage your main mailbox.
  3. Pick the Email provider. Choosing one fills in the SMTP host and port for you, and each provider has a step-by-step credentials guide behind its arrow.
  4. Enter the SMTP username and SMTP password. For providers that use two-step sign-in, such as Gmail and Outlook, an app password is recommended instead of your normal password.
  5. Confirm. The domain is added to the list.

Option B: add a sending domain and publish its DNS records

For a sending domain whose records Inflowave lists, open the domain in the Email domains list. Its detail view has a DNS records section. Each record shows a type, a purpose label, a name and a value, and a status of OK or Pending once checked. Create each one at your registrar exactly as shown, then press Re-check. A successful check reads DNS validation passed. A failed one reads DNS not yet propagated, which usually just means wait and try again.

If the list says no DNS records are on file yet, use the re-fetch button in that section to load them.

The Email settings also run a health check on each mailbox. It flags a missing or wrong SPF record, a missing or wrong DKIM record, and a missing DMARC record. These are the three standard proofs that you are allowed to send from the domain, and fixing them is what protects your inbox placement. Our guide to email deliverability explains why they matter.

Careful with MX records: MX records decide where incoming email is delivered. Inflowave's website records do not touch them, and you should not delete or edit your existing MX records unless a screen in Inflowave specifically lists one for you. Changing them by accident can stop your inbox from receiving mail.

Part 3: Booking pages and your own domain

Booking pages are created from the Calendar, where each event type gets a public page you can share. The Calendar setup includes a preview step that shows the page as visitors will see it, and it supports an embedded view that can sit inside another page.

The reliable way to make booking appear on your own domain is the one you have just set up. Connect the domain to the client's website using Part 1, then put the booking link or embed on a page of that site, for example mybusiness.com/book. Visitors stay on your address, and the appointment booking page does the scheduling behind it. Booking confirmations and reminders that go out by email still depend on Part 2.

Add the records at your registrar

The menus below come from each registrar's own help pages (listed at the end of this guide). Registrars rename buttons from time to time, so if a label differs slightly, follow the same path. The sign-in and domain list are the starting point in every case.

Registrar Where DNS lives Root domain in Name Save by
GoDaddy Domain Portfolio, then the domain, then DNS @ Save
Namecheap Domain List, Manage, Advanced DNS tab @ (in Host) Save changes
Cloudflare Dashboard, DNS, Records Root name or @ as the form allows Save
Squarespace (including former Google Domains) Domains dashboard, the domain, DNS, DNS Settings, Custom Records @ Save

GoDaddy

  1. Sign in to GoDaddy and open your Domain Portfolio.
  2. Select the domain to open its Domain Settings page, then select DNS.
  3. Select Add New Record and choose the record Type: A for a website, TXT for the ownership check.
  4. In Name, enter @ for the root domain, or a prefix such as www or go for a subdomain. For the TXT record, enter _inflowave-verify.
  5. In Value, paste the value from Inflowave. Leave TTL at the default.
  6. Click Save. Repeat for every record Inflowave lists.

GoDaddy notes that changing an existing A record can break a website or email service, so look at what is already there before editing. These steps apply when the domain uses GoDaddy's own nameservers.

Namecheap

  1. Sign in, open Domain List, and click Manage next to the domain.
  2. Open the Advanced DNS tab and click Add New Record.
  3. Choose A Record (or TXT Record) as the type.
  4. In Host, enter @ for the root domain, or the subdomain name such as www. Do not type the full domain, because Namecheap adds it. For the TXT record, enter _inflowave-verify.
  5. In Value, paste the value from Inflowave and choose your TTL (Automatic is fine).
  6. Click Save changes, or the green check at the end of the row if your screen shows one.

Advanced DNS only works when the domain uses Namecheap's own DNS. If you pointed the nameservers at Cloudflare or another host, make the change there. If an old A record already sits on @, remove it so there are no conflicts.

Cloudflare

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, open the domain and go to DNS, then Records.
  2. Select Add record.
  3. Choose the Type: A or TXT.
  4. Fill in the name and the value from Inflowave. For the root domain use the root name Cloudflare offers (it accepts @), or the subdomain prefix such as www. For the TXT record, the name is _inflowave-verify.
  5. For A records, Cloudflare shows a Proxy status setting. If Verify keeps failing, set the record to DNS only, which sends traffic straight to the address instead of through Cloudflare, then verify again. TXT records have no proxy setting.
  6. Click Save.

Squarespace and Google Domains

Google Domains customers now manage their domains at Squarespace. Sign in at the Squarespace domains dashboard with the same Google account, and claim the domain if it asks. The steps are the same whether or not you ever built a Squarespace site.

  1. Open your domains dashboard and click the domain name.
  2. Click DNS, then DNS Settings.
  3. Scroll to Custom Records and click Add record.
  4. Enter your password, or confirm with two-step sign-in if it is on, then click Continue.
  5. Choose the Type. Enter the Name: @ for the root domain, or only the prefix for a subdomain, because Squarespace adds your domain. For TXT records the value box is labelled Text; paste it without quote marks.
  6. Fill in the data from Inflowave and click Save.

Two Squarespace quirks to watch. If the domain currently points at a Squarespace site, its default records have to be deleted before the domain can point elsewhere. And if the domain uses custom nameservers, records added in Squarespace have no effect, so edit them where the nameservers point.

If Verify says it failed

Work through this list from the top. Most failures are one of the first four.

  1. You have not waited long enough. Give it the full 30 minutes before you change anything. Pressing Verify repeatedly does not speed it up.
  2. The Name box has the full domain. Look at the saved record in your registrar. If you see your domain twice, edit it to the short version.
  3. You added only one of two A records. Where Inflowave lists two for a name, both are needed.
  4. The records live at the wrong provider. Check which nameservers your domain uses and edit the records there.
  5. An old record conflicts. Delete or replace any previous A record on the same name pointing somewhere else.
  6. A stray space or quote mark came along. Paste again from the copy button, and for TXT values do not add quotes unless your registrar demands them.
  7. Cloudflare is proxying the record. Switch the A record to DNS only and verify again.
  8. It still fails after a few hours. Use Send to developer to send the records to your DNS administrator for a second pair of eyes, or contact Inflowave support with the domain name.

After the domain is verified

  • Publish to it. Verified domains appear in the picker when you publish a client's site. Once a site is published to a domain, later updates go straight to that same address without asking again. Changing the address is a deliberate action from the site's Custom domain menu.
  • Connect texting approval. US texting registration (A2P) needs a subdomain connected on the Website Domain tab. The tab links to Phone and SMS Settings, and our A2P registration guide walks through the rest.
  • Add forms. Forms you publish on the connected site show their full address on your own domain, so you can share clean links. See Inflowave forms.
  • Keep the records. Do not delete them later while tidying your DNS. A deleted record turns the badge to Disconnected and takes the site down.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to buy my domain from Inflowave?

No. You connect a domain you already own at any registrar. You keep ownership and can disconnect it at any time by removing it in Inflowave.

Will connecting my domain break my email?

Website records do not change where email is delivered. The Website Domain screen says so directly. The risk is editing or deleting MX records by mistake, so leave those alone unless a screen tells you to change them.

Can I connect a subdomain instead of my main domain?

Yes. Enter it exactly, for example go.mybusiness.com. The records then use the prefix as the name, and there is no www line. It is the safest way to try Inflowave while your existing site stays on the root domain.

How long does it take to verify?

Inflowave's website screen says up to 30 minutes after adding the records, and the Custom Domains page says usually 5 to 15 minutes, up to 48 hours in the worst case. Treat 30 minutes as normal and a few hours as possible.

Why does my domain show Disconnected?

It was verified before, but its DNS no longer points at your site. Someone probably edited or removed the records, or moved the nameservers. Add the records shown on the row again and press Verify.

Do I need both the www and the root records?

For a root domain, yes. Inflowave lists the www records alongside the root ones so both addresses work. A subdomain needs only its own records.

Can two clients use the same domain?

Website domains are bound to a single client and checked for agency ownership on the server. Add each domain under the client it belongs to.

Is there an HTTPS padlock on my domain?

The connected site opens at an https address from the domain row. We did not find a separate certificate step in the product screens, so there is nothing extra for you to configure there.

What if my registrar is not on this list?

The same three steps apply anywhere. Find the DNS or Advanced DNS page, add a record with the type, name and value from Inflowave, and save. The only difference is button wording.

Can I hand this to my web developer?

Yes. Use Send to developer on the domain row. It packages the domain and each record's type, name and value so they can paste them without logging in to Inflowave.
