Generate your Yahoo app password
- Sign in at
login.yahoo.com/account/security. - Scroll to External connections (this section was renamed from "Other ways to sign in" in 2024).
- Click Generate and manage app passwords, then Create app password.
- Enter the app's name (e.g. "Inflowave"), then click Generate password.
- Yahoo shows a one-time 16-character password. Copy it, paste into Inflowave, then click Done.
Browser-trust warning: Yahoo's anti-abuse system flags app-password creation from unrecognized browsers. Generate the password from a browser you have signed into Yahoo with for several days. Incognito and brand-new browsers frequently get blocked with no visible error.
Persistence: Unlike Google and Apple, Yahoo app passwords do NOT get revoked when you change your main Yahoo password. You must manually delete them from the same screen if you want to revoke them.
Connect to Inflowave
- Inflowave → Settings → Email → Add sending domain → Custom SMTP.
- Host:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com, Port:587. - Username: your full Yahoo address.
- Password: the 16-character app password.
- Save, send a test.
Troubleshooting
Wrong password - use the 16-character app password, not your login. Confirm no spaces or trailing newlines.
Browser-trust block. Re-run from a browser you sign into Yahoo with regularly. Avoid Incognito and never-used browsers.
You may be on a legacy Yahoo Business or Yahoo Small Business account where the menu lives elsewhere. Visit login.yahoo.com/account/security directly.
Yahoo Mail sending limits
- ~500 recipients per day for personal Yahoo accounts (the published soft cap).
- 100 recipients per single message.
- Yahoo rate-limits aggressively per hour - sustained high-frequency sends trigger temporary throttling.
- As of 2024, Yahoo (like Gmail) requires bulk senders to publish SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Mail without proper authentication is silently dropped or routed to spam.
